Who doesn’t love a carnival? Located at Columbus Park (Outwater Ln. and Midland Ave.) in Garfield, this 5-day event began tonight, and admission was free. Admission will be $3 starting tomorrow until this Sunday, the 6th, when it ends. It features exciting rides for all ages by Campy’s Blue Star Amusements. This can definitely be a little pricey, so be prepared to spend. One can purchase digital tickets at four kiosks, starting at $20 for 20 tickets. The kid rides begin at 4 tickets, and the adults have 6 tickets for the Ferris Wheel, the YoYo (swing), or the Ring of Fire. A separate kiosk to purchase Pay-one-price ride wristbands is $45 per wristband, per day. The rides looked clean, and the lines weren't long. Besides the rides, there were several food stands if one was hungry to buy tacos, zeppole, empanadas, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream, or turkey legs. If you are lucky, there are several games to play and win. The staff was courteous and wore the company logo, so you never struggled to find anyone when you needed assistance. It was a great time to spend on this cool summer night.

The park is pretty mediocre. Offers the Babe Ruth field and a few benches. Not really a huge attraction from the city, however, it’s a good place to relax along the way to your destination. The Vietnam Wall Memorial stopped by on its travels in this park, and I was able to take a few snapshots of it.

Interesting how large this park is, for being: in nj, in an urban area, in the middle of Garfield. Shows how people thought of things much differently back when the park was created. For little league fans, parents, or those waiting for a train, its a nice, peaceful place to hang out. At a game, they have a full snack bar that also makes hot food: dogs, tenders, burgers, fries. (In these covid times, their menu is unheard of. Most snack bars are closed, & only East Rutherford can really compete with them.) Clean bathrooms. Plenty of parking, good night lighting, & good score board. Readible from far away. But, according to some players i spoke with, the outfield is very bumpy & uneven. Also, at end of right field, the whole field dips into a ditch, like Gettysburg. I know little league isn't the bigs, & rarely can coaches do anything about what i mention. I just mean players from out of town should be on their guard & play carefully. Pregame i recommend some runs through & across all the outfield. Also fans should bring a chair, the guest bleachers are small. The infield is nice & raked well with tall, wide back stop. Was told the dugouts are not so good, but didn't see, so unsure. The snackbar staff gets an extra star, they did well.
