Escape It Houston, featured in the Theme Park Directory category, has received overwhelmingly negative customer feedback, indicating significant operational and customer service issues. Reviews highlight problems with puzzle design, room maintenance, and staff behavior, leading to a poor overall experience.

Customers have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the quality of the escape rooms, describing the puzzles as a "mess" and "confusing." The background ambience is criticized for being "extremely low quality and annoying," with repetitive and poorly looped sounds that detract from immersion.

The staff has been criticized for "rudeness and unprofessionalism." Customers have reported encounters with rude front desk employees and hosts who were dismissive and unhelpful. The lack of post-game debriefing and the perceived eagerness to rush customers out have also been noted.

Room quality and functionality have been significant concerns. Reports of "malfunctioning props" and "broken puzzle locks" indicate poor maintenance and design. Some customers have even abandoned rooms due to these issues.

Specific rooms have received particular criticism. The "Apollo XIII" room is described as "extremely easy" and "instructional-based," lacking challenge and engagement. The "Alamo" room is criticized for having only one puzzle at a time, leading to boredom, and for having broken locks and basic puzzles.

Despite these significant issues, one customer noted that the "props and dead bodies were pretty cool," providing a brief moment of surprise. However, this positive aspect was overshadowed by the overall negative experience.

Key concerns noted by customers:

  • Poorly designed and confusing puzzles.
  • Low-quality and annoying background ambience.
  • Rude and unprofessional staff.
  • Malfunctioning props and broken puzzle locks.
  • Poor room layout and maintenance.
  • Lack of challenge in specific rooms (Apollo XIII).
  • Boring and basic puzzles in specific rooms (Alamo).

Given the strongly negative customer feedback, potential visitors are strongly advised to exercise caution and consider alternative escape room venues in Houston. The reported issues indicate a significant lack of maintenance and customer care, which may lead to a disappointing and frustrating experience.

If I could rate this place lower than a one star, I would. I have been to multiple escape rooms throughout the years and NEVER have I left a room feeling disheartened and frustrated. The puzzles were such a mess that it wasn't even fun, the clues were also more confusing (I don't even know how that works), and the background ambience was extremely low quality and annoying (you could clearly tell that the sirens were looped on a video that constantly cut out... really ruined my immersion). I don't have high standards for escape rooms but this was something else... there are other better escape rooms in Houston that deserve your money, this is not one of them. It also sucked that when we finished the room, the staff looked like they wanted us to leave immediately and weren't even allowed to tell us what we missed in the room. On a positive note, at least the props and dead bodies were pretty cool. It made me jump and scream in surprise before the room even started. Sad that everything else sucked :(

Staff Behavior: Multiple reviewers have criticized the staff for rudeness and unprofessionalism. One customer recounted booking a party for a friend’s birthday, only to encounter a front desk employee who was immediately rude. Another reviewer noted that the employees were rude throughout the entire experience, with the host quickly mumbling through the rules and displaying annoyance when questions were asked. Such interactions have negatively impacted the overall experience for some visitors. Room Quality and Functionality: Some guests have reported issues with the escape rooms’ design and maintenance. A reviewer described the room as poorly laid out, with malfunctioning props, leading them to abandon the experience. Another customer highlighted technical problems, such as broken puzzle locks that didn’t open even with the correct combination, causing frustration and detracting from the enjoyment. Specific Room Concerns: Certain themed rooms have received particular criticism. The “Apollo XIII” room was described as extremely easy, with an instructional-based format where staff directed participants on what to do, resulting in a lack of challenge and engagement. Additionally, the “Alamo” room was criticized for having only one puzzle at a time, leading to participants standing around waiting, and for having broken locks and basic puzzles that became boring quickly.

They are currently public bookings so if you want a private booking, you do have to purchase all slots available to prevent others from joining the same time slot as you is what the lady over the phone mentioned since we did call ahead of time to get information. The lady was very informative and had patience in answering any of my questions that I had which was really sweet because I felt like I asked a lot so I never felt rushed to finish up. She encouraged us to try the Alamo which we ended up booking the 11:30pm Alamo for a group of 6. Even though it was late, all the ladies there were really welcoming during our check-in and their customer service was great! We made it on time for check-in so they asked if we wanted to purchase beverages, use the restroom and etc. The lobby was clean, smelt good and they also have lockers at no charge to put up your cellphones and items while you play. Our game moderator was fantastic! Very attentive when we asked for clues but the game itself was very hands on. If you want an escape room with more theatrical play and if other members of the party don’t have much experience , I’ll suggest the Alamo. We will definitely be coming back to try out the other rooms they have to offer since we had a really fun experience!

If I could give it negative stars, I absolutely would. Escape It Houston was a complete disaster from start to finish. They made us lock up our phones, which felt unnecessary and inconvenient. The props were broken, and it was clear the room hadn’t been properly maintained. The puzzles were either broken or malfunctioning, making it incredibly frustrating to try and solve anything. To top it off, the videos that were supposed to guide us through the experience didn’t play correctly. I honestly just wanted to leave halfway through. This was a huge waste of time and money. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

I liked it enough here to do a second room. Some of the puzzles don't really make sense, but it was challenging enough to be fun (we did the "Da Vinci Code" room and the "Lost in Time" room). I like that this place is not a room where you just find stuff, you really have to use some reasoning for some of the puzzles
