Escape Room Entertainment, featured in the Theme Park Directory category, has received numerous negative customer reviews, primarily focused on malfunctioning puzzles and poor game execution. While the venue's reception area is aesthetically pleasing, the actual escape room experiences have been significantly disappointing for many customers.

Several customers reported that puzzles within the rooms did not function correctly, leading to frustration and wasted time. One review detailed a "next to last puzzle" that was supposed to function like a padlock but consistently malfunctioned, even when following the game master's instructions. This resulted in the group failing to solve the room, despite having experience with other escape rooms.

Another customer mentioned that "at least 2 puzzles didn't work correctly," and a third puzzle's functionality was ambiguous, further contributing to the negative experience. The overall sentiment is that "if your game is broken don't let people use it."

The game master's performance was also criticized, with one customer stating that their game runner was "so new she was not yet ready to be left alone to facilitate." The game master was described as "dreadfully forgetful" and lacking in necessary knowledge, leading to a confusing and frustrating experience.

The specific room, "The Witch's Attic," was described as having a "fun concept," but the execution was deemed "very rote and linear." Customers complained about the lack of clear instructions, particularly regarding the order of puzzles and the number of items needed to solve them. The use of magnetic locks (maglocks) was also criticized for being prone to malfunction and adding unnecessary complexity.

Customers have expressed a lack of confidence in the venue's ability to provide a satisfactory experience, with one stating, "I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend it. I don't have confidence that they would provide the promised product for my $175."

Key areas of concern noted by customers:

  • Malfunctioning puzzles.
  • Poor game execution.
  • Inexperienced and unprepared game masters.
  • Linear and unengaging room design.
  • Unreliable magnetic locks.
  • Lack of clear instructions.

Escape Room Entertainment in Melbourne faces significant customer complaints regarding malfunctioning puzzles and poor game execution. Potential visitors should be aware of these issues, as they may detract from the overall experience. The venue's beautiful reception area does not compensate for the technical and execution-related problems within the escape rooms.

Story line was good, in theory the puzzles were good. There was at least 2 puzzles that didn't work correctly. The third one we were not sure if it was even required but it was specifically mentioned in one of the clues and had the same function as the other item mentioned in the clue so we were pretty sure it was supposed to do something. We wasted the last 20+ minutes fighting with the next to last puzzle that was supposed to function like a padlock. The game master explained ad nauseum that we had to spin it "very slowly" When we spun it "very slowly" it produced no reaction when we sped up the wheel it gave the desired reaction about 1/2 way through the process and would then quit. We as a group have been to 5 escape rooms of varying levels of difficulty, this is the 1st one we have not solved. It is kind of hard to solve a room if the puzzles don't function. I give them credit for the story line and I give them credit for the puzzle complexity but if your game is broken don't let people use it. I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend it. I don't have confidence that they would provide the promised product for my $175

Our group played at the West Melbourne location. The reception area of the venue itself is beautiful, and having the entry doors to some of the game spaces hidden behind bookshelves is a great touch! That, unfortunately, is where most of the positives end. Our game runner was so new she was not yet ready to be left alone to facilitate; the patter wasn't there, she was dreadfully forgetful, and at times it felt like we knew more about what we would be doing than she did, poor thing. We played The Witch's Attic, which was quite the fun concept. The execution of the game, however, was very rote and linear -- each puzzle had to be solved in a particular order (and often in an identical manner to the preceding puzzle), and many times where multiple items needed to be collected, there was little to no indication of how many items needed to be collected to complete the puzzle. There was also zero indication of which puzzle needed to be solved first to set up the rest, an absolute necessity in a linear design. We spent far too much of our time wondering what was a puzzle and what wasn't. Then there are the locks. I have never before played an escape room where all but one of the locks is magnetic, and while this could have been set up to add the extra air of magic this game called for, it very much wasn't. There was absolutely no benefit to using maglocks in this room where combination locks would have sufficed (and likely would have broken up some of the linearity, too!). Also, as anyone who has played rooms with maglocks knows, they are exceedingly prone to breaking down or being far too sensitive when it comes to positioning. Props to ERE for adding confirmation beeps when part of the lock is engaged, but this didn't fix the issue that many of the locks had to be enticed into working correctly; a less experienced group wouldn't necessarily know they had done everything right despite the lock not tripping. All in all, very underwhelming. Although the price is noticeably lower than many other venues, that fact just doesn't make up for the lack of enjoyment my group found in the experience. It's unlikely we'll be returning for another game.

This company has the highest quality escape rooms in the area. Both this location and the one downtown have rooms that are fun and immersive.

I didn't really like it much but they have several different rooms to choose from. I think my family just picked a bad one. I think I would try again in a different room so I don't want to discourage anyone from trying it.
