Great Room Escape Introduce
Welcome to Great Room Escape, an amusement center listed in our Theme Park Directory, located at 1203 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205, USA. This venue offers a variety of escape room experiences with highly-detailed and immersive decoration, promising a step into different adventurous scenarios.
Environment: The facility is described as rundown on the outside and may be difficult to enter for those with mobility issues due to front steps. Inside, it has a warehouse feel but with great atmosphere, decoration, and set-up. However, its size may make it hard to heat, as visitors in January reported shivering even with jackets on. Parking can be an unexpected cost, with nearby lots charging fees; street parking is available but timing-dependent.
Services: As a featured amusement center in our Theme Park Directory, Great Room Escape offers multiple escape room experiences, including "Bomb Squad," "Orient Express," and "Anubis." The game masters are noted for being friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable about the rooms, providing hints without giving away solutions. However, the hint system relies on shouting and receiving typed messages on a screen, which can be slow and require repeating information. The staff's attentiveness reportedly decreased towards the end of one visit.
Features: The key features of Great Room Escape are its highly-detailed and immersive room decorations and clever puzzles that offer a brain workout. Rooms like "Bomb Squad" are particularly enjoyed. However, there are reported issues with room maintenance, including technical difficulties like glitching monitors and wear and tear on props, which can hinder puzzle completion and immersion. The final function in the "Anubis" room was reported as not working, leading to disappointment. The "Orient Express" room is highlighted for its immersive set and clever puzzles.
Promotional Information: Great Room Escape offers multiple escape room experiences, and using a Groupon can make it more affordable to try several rooms at once. The immersive sets and clever puzzles are promoted as enjoyable and providing a good mental challenge. However, potential local users should be aware of the reported issues with parking costs, the rundown exterior and potentially cold interior, maintenance problems within the rooms that may require game master intervention, and a basic hint system. While some game masters are praised for their friendliness and knowledge, the overall experience might be affected by these drawbacks. One reviewer highly recommended the "Orient Express" room specifically for its immersive set and clever puzzles. For bookings and information on their available rooms and any current promotions, please contact them at (210) 504-4698 or +1 210-504-4698.
In conclusion, Great Room Escape in San Antonio, TX, as featured in our Theme Park Directory, offers immersive escape rooms with clever puzzles. However, local users should be aware of potential issues with parking costs, the condition of the facility, maintenance within the rooms, and the hint system based on recent customer reviews. The "Orient Express" room appears to be a standout experience.

Customer Reviews
Thanks to Groupon, we were able to knock out three rooms for a Saturday morning family outing, escaping from Bomb Squad, Orient Express, and Anubis. We enjoyed the three rooms and were glad to add these experiences to our list of 100+ escape adventures (especially Bomb Squad!), but perhaps because we did three at once, we also saw many shortfalls that make us less inclined to go back for the last two experiences. Parking (Timing is everything): As other reviews state, the parking situation can be an unexpected and aggravating cost if you have to use a nearby lot. We had an early appointment and were able to use street parking, which saved us about $20. Facility (Neutral - maybe avoid winter time): The building is rundown on the outside and difficult to enter for some with mobility issues due to the front steps. Inside, it feels like a warehouse with a great atmosphere, decoration and set-up, but the size seemed to make it hard to heat. We were there for 3 hours, and had jackets on (it was January after all), but we were still shivering by the time we left. On some of the puzzles it was tough to concentrate while we kept blowing warm air into our hands. Room Maintenance (Ok but just poor enough): All the rooms had highly-detailed and immersive decoration, but there were too many technical difficulties and issues where wear and tear created more of a distraction and disappointment then there would have been if it hadn't been there in the first place. In at least four cases, it made it harder if not impossible to complete a puzzle without gamemaster help. Customers can be destructive, but it's important for immersion and smooth operation to stay onto of upkeep and repairs, even if it seems cosmetic. As examples, train windows (monitors) that were glitching or blank and then broken and loose temple wall bricks (foam blocks) become a distraction, but worn down symbols and hieroglyphs (and damaged statues) make it harder to distinguish codes and solutions. We like puzzles that make us think harder but not just see or guess harder. The worst part was when we were at the end of Anubis, the final function didn't work. To avoid spoilers, let's just leave it at utter disappointment, like when the final July 4th display fizzles out and you don't get the satisfying finale. That kind of ending can undermine all the build-up that precedes. (In this case, almost, but not quite.) Hint System (Average): The entire hint system seemed based on shouting and being heard from outside the room, which resulted in communication typed messages on the screen. We were the only ones in the facility, so either he wasn't watching or couldn't see what was happening in the rooms. It's always aggravating when requesting a hint requires 1 to 2 minutes of walking through everything you have done up until that point. The game master did a good job of hinting without providing outright solutions. Staff (Started high, ended low): The game master was very friendly and engaging. He knew the business and the rooms really well. Unfortunately, we don't think he was the one who set up the rooms the night before, because the Orient Express has multiple clues hidden in the wrong places. On two occasions, we needed the game master to intervene so we could progress, just to find the last needed piece in the newly opened space. Finally, when complete, a family had come in for axe throwing, and we weren't even acknowledged as we left. No photo, no "goodbye," and no "hope to see you again." I guess they won't?

We just finished the Orient Express escape room and it was a blast! The set was immersive, the puzzles were clever (with just enough challenge), and the whole experience felt like stepping into a classic mystery novel. We had a great time sleuthing our way to victory-highly recommend for anyone who loves a good brain workout and a great story! Shout out to Blaine for his amazing help and fun vibe!

We had a great time! I took my daughter and friends to the Zombie room for her 14th bday. They had a wonderful time. The hosts were very accommodating and pleasant to the screaming teens. Thanks again for complimentary axe throwing!

Had a GREAT experience! Mac was a great host, stayed in character the whole time, but still helped us and had us cracking up. We’re going to be telling stories about our experience for a while! We did the zombie room, and Daniel was a terrific, if terrifying zombie!

Mac and Ryan were amazing in the escape room! It was utterly terrifying in the best way possible and the puzzles kept me on my tones the entire time. 10 out of 10 would come again I recommend this to anybody looking for a good scare!
