My favorite ride at California Adventure used to be the Hollywood Tower of Terror, but now it's Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This was my first time experiencing it since the change, and it didn’t disappoint! The ride was absolutely exhilarating, with suspenseful drops that kept me on the edge of my seat. I love this ride and highly recommend it. The line can be super long, but it’s totally worth the wait. If you have the Genie Pass, make sure to prioritize this ride!

I loved this attraction! At first I was scared, but then I had a lot of fun! I love the film and I think the way the characters were represented in the attraction is incredible! Congratulations Disney, you rocked it!

Great re-imagined Disney ride! The old Tower Of Terror was a true classic and sorely missed. Disney did a great job reimagining this ride into something fun, exciting and entertaining. The elevator drops are not for the faint of heart, but a true blast for those who love a good thrill.

This is the best ride in either park hands down! If you’re going to the park in October, they have 2 different themes (one day time, one night time after 3pm). You can get 2 Lightning lanes passes for this ride only during this time because of the different themes. The night theme was by far better but both rides day or night are leaps and bounds better than Disney Worlds Tower of Terror. If you’re going to rope drop California Adventure don’t rush to Radiator Springs Racers because it’s going to be a long wait..everyone is going to that. If you rope drop Guardians, it’s going to be 10-20 minutes. BEST RIDE IN EITHER PARK!!

I was lucky enough to visit DCA during the Halloween overlay, so I got to experience both Mission Breakout and Monsters After Dark, both are reviewed below. There’s always a significant wait for this attraction, unless you happen to be at the front of the line at Rope Drop, but even then, it’ll be 15-20mins for this attraction. In my opinion, this ride is well worth the wait! I managed to ride this 7 times, twice with the overlay, but patience is key. •Mission Breakout: I’d been anxiously awaiting riding this attraction for years, and it did not disappoint! Initially, I was disappointed that it was no longer Tower of Terror, but regardless, this ride was incredibly fun, and one of my top three favorite rides. The outdoor queue lags a little, but once you get inside, it amps up with the characters in displays from Guardians of the Galaxy. The pre-show is decent with a Rocket animatronic, both pre-show rooms show something slightly different, so it’s neat if you get the opportunity to experience both. Standing in line for the “elevator” really hypes you up, and once you’re seated, get ready for one hell of a ride! Despite being told what to expect, there’s no way to prepare yourself for what’s to come. All songs are perfectly suited for the ride; kudos to Disney Imagineers for the extensive thought and planning that went into this attraction. Every rider was grinning from ear to ear walking off this ride! Monsters After Dark: this attraction overtakes normal theming around 4:00pm during the fall season. I highly suggest riding both if you get the opportunity! Although this is similar to how the ride normally is, Monsters After Dark has a more ominous vibe from the moment you enter the queue. There’s rattling and scrounging sounds as if things are trying to escape, and announcements say things have gone awry in the building. It’s (literally) dark, some characters that are normally visible during Mission Breakout are covered, and the queue video is different. The pre-show with Rocket is also different, which I found had an added level of humor with what Rocket tells you he needs your help with. Once again, Cast Members were a standout for this attraction, especially during Monsters After Dark, they play up the fear factor. One Cast Member in particular was especially gifted with scaring the crowd, and made it an experience I’ll never forget! There’s one track for this overlay by Tyler Bates, so heavier rock than the usual songs, but it suits the darker version. The video while on the ride also has new scenes. You’ll see warnings throughout that this version may not be suitable for younger crowds, and yes, it’s creepier, but it wasn’t overly frightening in my opinion. Highly recommend ALL versions of this ride, it’s a guaranteed fun and thrilling ride!
