For anyone interested in science and cool things - Analemmatic sundial - has a twin in Gabriel Park, SW area. Columns denote hour, ground slate roman numerals denote month of the year to account for sun's location. A person is the 'gnomon' that casts the shadow to mark the time - stand on the ground slate on the correct month and shadow will point to correct time (summer Daylight Savings Time). Installed 2020 - summer 2021 by Portland Park Supervisor Seth Menser & staff assigned to the southwest zone. Menser had seen sundials in his travels and got permission to build two sundials inside parks he supervised to add an educational element to the parks. The sundials are constructed with basalt stones acquired from a local masonry store off Johnson Creek Blvd. Thanks to Seth Menser with horticultural staff Jonah Bowron, Heike Edossa, Josh Kenaston, Erik Schubert.
